First Gen Dodge Dart
The Dodge Dart first appeared for the 1960 model year, emerging as a downsized large car to fill the standard, low-priced segment for Dodge dealers after the Plymouth brand was withdrawn from their sales network. Designed to replace Plymouths, the vehicle was initially proposed to be named "Dart," a name only accepted after executives initially favored the costly, research-generated name "Zipp."
